2018 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

DHS CLASS OF 1956 - $1,000

The graduates of the Duncan High School Class of 1956 established the Duncan High  School Class of 1956 Scholarship through the Duncan Public Schools Foundation to honor all graduates of 1956 and to recognize outstanding Duncan High School graduates who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership and character. This is a $1,000 one-time scholarship.

Scholarship Recipient:  Madelyn Wilson

GENE NELSON SCHOLARSHIP - $3,900

Mr. Gene Nelson in 1991 established The Gene Nelson Family Scholarship through the Duncan Public Schools Foundation to recognize outstanding graduates of Duncan High School who plan to attend an Oklahoma state supported college or university. Selection for the scholarship is based on scholastic achievement, leadership, character, and participation in school and community activities. This is a $3,000 scholarship payable at $1,500 per year for two years.

DUNCAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP - $7,000

The Duncan Public Schools Foundation is a local non-profit organization, established to support and encourage academic excellence in the Duncan Public School system. DPSF has endowed a scholarship fund to recognize outstanding graduates of Duncan High School who wish to further their education at an Oklahoma state-supported four-year college or university. This is a $5,000 scholarship payable at $1,250 per year for four years.

Scholarship Recipient: Caden Bowles

KATHERINE ANN HRUBY SCHOLARSHIP - $3,000

In 2016, as a permanent tribute to the life of Katherine Ann Hruby, her grandmother Mrs. Janice Hruby and her aunt Mrs. Allison Hruby established this scholarship.  Katherine would have been a graduate of the DHS Class of 2016. Katherine was very active in her school and community, but her passion was volleyball. She was a member of the varsity volleyball team and the 2014 Academic Class 5A State Champion Volleyball team. This scholarship is designed to recognize outstanding Duncan High School women graduates. Selection for the scholarship  is based on academic achievement, leadership and character. Preference is given to students on the DHS Volleyball team.

HELEN KUHN SCHOLARSHIP - (2) $7,200

In 2000 Mrs. Helen Kuhn established the Helen Kuhn Scholarship through the Duncan Public Schools  Foundation  to  recognize Duncan High School graduates and to provide needed financial assistance to graduates who have faced and overcome adversity and who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership and character. The Helen Kuhn scholarship is a $6,000 scholarship payable at

$1,500 per year for four years.

EVETTE LAPARCHE FREEMAN SCHOLARSHIP - $1,200

The Evette LaParche Freeman Memorial Scholarship ,vas established by her family through the Duncan Public Schools Foundation to honor the memory of Evette LaParche Freeman who dedicated her life and career as a military nurse to the care and healing of others and to recognize outstanding Duncan High School graduates who wish to pursue a career in nursing and who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership and character. This is a $1,000 one-time scholarship.

Scholarship Recipient: Jenna Hosch

OPAL LOWRY SCHOLARSHIP - $15,000

In  2000, Kay Wallraven, Trustee of the Opal S. Lowy Revocable Trust, established the Opal S. Lowry Scholarship to recognize outstanding graduates of Duncan High School who plan to attend vocational-technical school accredited by the State Department of Career and Technology Education or an accredited college or university. Selection for these scholarships are based on scholastic achievement and moral character. These are $4,000 scholarships payable at

$1,000 per year for four years.

Scholarship Recipient:  Mackenzie Cook

G.D. MCENROE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - $7,000

In 2002 Miss Marilyn McEnroe, a graduate of Duncan High School, established the McEnroe Family Scholarship  in honor of her parents,  G.D.  & Bernadine McEnroe, through the Duncan Public Schools Foundation to recognize outstanding Duncan High School graduates. Selection for the scholarship is based on scholastic achievement, leadership, character, and participation in school and community activities. It is  Miss  McEnroe's intention that this scholarship is presented each year to a graduating Duncan High School senior. This is a $6,000 scholarship payable at $1,500 per year for four years.

Scholarship Recipient: Emma Banks

WELDON AND CONNIE MOSELY SCHOLARSHIP - $5,000

Mrs. Connie  Mosley  established  and endowed the Weldon and Connie Mosley Scholarship  through the Duncan Public Schools Foundation to recognize outstanding graduates of Duncan High School who plan to attend Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Selection for this scholarship is based on leadership, character, and participation in school and community  activities. This is a $4,000 scholarship payable at $1,000 per year for four years.

Scholarship Recipient: Erica Gurrera

KENNETH AND JULIETTE WOODARD SCHOLARSHIP - $10,000

In 1991 Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth R. Woodward established and endowed the Kenneth R. and Juliette Woodward Scholarship  through  the Duncan   Public Schools Foundation to recognize outstanding graduates of Duncan High School who plan to attend an Oklahoma state supported college or university. This scholarship has been awarded to a graduating Duncan High School senior each year since its establishment. Selection for this scholarship is based on scholastic achievement, leadership, character, and participation in school and community activities. This is an $8,000 scholarship payable at $2,000 er year for four years.

Scholarship Recipient: Fisher Anderson

STEPHENS COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (2) - $2,000

In December 2014 the Stephens County Bar Association permanently endowed two scholarships through the Duncan Public Schools Foundation to continue their annual award of two scholarships. These scholarships were established in the memory of Judge Arthur J. Marmakuke and Mr. O.L. Peck, Jr. and to honor their exemplary character, as well as their contributions and dedication to the community, the law and the legal profession all of which they were both very proud of. Each scholarship is a $1,000 one-time cash scholarship.
